WHAT IS PELLEVÉ?

Pellevé is an FDA-approved energy-based skin treatment that safely and effectively tightens the skin.

If you want to address wrinkles, crepey skin, skin redness and/or the effects of sun damage, this treatment may be perfect for you. Pellevé can treat skin laxity in the jowls and the neck. It is particularly ideal for facial areas that are otherwise hard to treat, such as dark circles and bags under the eyes and aging lipstick lines. With non-invasive laser treatments, we can add youth back to your skin without the use of surgery or anesthesia.

It was in 2009 that the FDA approved Pellevé for the treatment of mild to moderate facial wrinkles. Since then millions of treatments have yielded youthful results.

Clinical studies have proven that Pellevé’s treatments are a safe and effective way to reduce wrinkles without surgery. The side effects and discomfort are NONE to date at Newport Aesthetics (since they all have been done by our professionals), and no anesthesia is used or needed during the procedure.

HOW DOES PELLEVÉ WORK?

Pellevé uses radiofrequency (RF) to deliver a constant, gradual energy to the skin, so that heat builds up where the skin and fat layer come together, similar to getting a hot (just warm here) stone massage. The increasing heat from the Pellevé handset modifies the collagen bundles deep inside the skin, so that they contract and encourage new collagen to grow gradually. This means firmer, tighter skin that is noticeable right away, with results that last.

Unlike other skin tightening systems, there is no need for anesthesia (ULTHERAPY is know to be painful) or skin cooling. Because the skin isn’t numbed, patients are able to describe the depth of feeling during their treatment, which helps us provide the very best results. Treatments are suitable both for men and women.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING TREATMENTS?

First, a protective gel will be applied to your face. Next, we will gently move the Pellevé hand piece over the targeted areas of your skin. Patients often describe feeling a deep warming sensation. A full facial treatment typically takes between 30 minutes to an hour. During your appointment, we will explain everything in detail and will make you feel at ease. When you come into Newport Aesthetics, you are in safe, medically qualified hands.

Many people find Pellevé to be a very comfortable experience. Mild swelling and redness may occur, because no anesthetic is used, but this usually goes away within a few hours to a day. There is no downtime with this procedure, so you will be able to return to your normal routine immediately.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM THE RESULTS?

Many patients see immediate results after the first treatment, but most will need a series of 3-4 sessions for the very best results. A majority of patients in an FDA clinical trial for Pellevé showed continued improvement at up to 12 months following treatment.

HOW MAY TREATMENTS DO I NEED?

Many people see results immediately after just one treatment. For most patients, a series of 3-4 treatments spaced about one month apart is recommended for optimal long-term results. Additional maintenance treatments at 6-12 months will protect your investment and youth. The frequency will be determined by you goals and Dr. Mai and her clinical team.

HOW LONG IS A PELLEVÉ SESSION AGAIN?

Depending on which areas you are having done, it usually takes from 20 minutes for just the eye area up to 60 minutes for a full face treatment. You may add the neck, chest, triceps, abs, above knees, and ANYWHERE you find wrinkles, crepey and/or sun damaged skin.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER A PELLEVÉ SESSION?

There is no recovery time needed after a Pellevé treatment. You may be slightly pink with mild swelling for a few hours. You can wear makeup right away and resume normal activities, so it fits easily into a busy schedule.

MOST people can head to a dinner party the same day. Hollywood celebrities have this treatment done hours to a day BEFORE stepping out for their red carpet events.

CAN PELLEVÉ BE COMBINED WITH OTHER TREATMENTS?

Dr. Mai frequently recommends combining Pellevé with laser, wrinkle relaxing agents (Botox) and Fillers (immediately AFTER Pelleve). Schedule a consultation to have your best treatment plan formulated based on your skin type and your aesthetic goals.

WHO ARE NOT CANDIDATES FOR TREATMENT?

If you are pregnant or nursing.
If you are currently on Accutane Treatment, Pelleve can be done 6 months after the last dose of Accutane.
If you have an active cold sore/fever blister or skin infection.

Pre- and Post-Care Instructions

1 Week Before Treatment:

Avoid sun exposure and sunless tanning. Sun burned or tanned skin will not be treated.
All skin irritants must be stopped (glycolic/ salicylic acids, benzoyl peroxide, retinol products such as Retin A, Tazorac, Triluma, Differin, and Vitamin C) on the area being treated.
Advise our office if you are taking antibiotics. Certain antibiotics (Tetracycline, Doxycycline and this family) can make a patient photosensitive, therefore, treatment may not be able to done until two weeks after completion of antibiotic.

Day Before Treatment:

Please let the staff know if you have a history of cold sores/fever blisters PRIOR to treatment, so an anti-viral medication can be prescribed. Treatment can not be done if you have an active cold sore or skin infection and will be rescheduled.

Day of Treatment:

If this is your first treatment, please arrive 30 minutes prior to your treatment to take photos and make sure consents are signed.
Do not wear any make-up or moisturizers on the area being treated, however, we have cleaners that can be used for you to remove in the office.
If a patient chooses to use a topical numbing (anesthetic) cream or take an anti-anxiety medication, please arrive 45 minutes prior to treatment. Please purchase the topical anesthetic PRIOR to treatment from our staff. Instructions will be given to the patient at the time of purchase to ensure proper application. Additionally, if you choose to take an anti-anxiety medication, we suggest that you have someone drive you home after your treatment.

Post-treatment:

It is normal for the area treated to have redness and swelling. It is uncommon for a blister or bruise to develop. Should you develop a blister, a topical antibiotic ointment such as polysporin can be used twice daily until healed.
An ice pack should be avoided to maximize treatment results. Pain medication post treatment is not necessary.
Makeup can be applied immediately post treatment.
Waxing, tweezing, and depilatory creams can be resumed 3 days post treatment.
Avoid hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms and exercise post treatment. However, all other normal activity can be resumed.
A non-exfoliant cleaner and light moisturizer can be used the day of treatment. You can resume normal skin care the next day.
All skin irritants (glycolic/salicylic acids, benzoyl peroxide, retinol products, or vitamin C) can be resumed 3 days post treatment.
An SPF 30 or higher with Zinc Oxide will be applied immediately post treatment. Please continue apply sunblock daily to maximize your results and minimize irritation.
