The Synergy by Newport Aesthetics laser treatment is the proven way to solve multiple skin concerns at once. How It Works

The Synergy by Newport Aesthetics treatment is exclusively performed layering multiple lasers for the best results. Each treatment is tailored to each individual's skin color, type and NOT ALL CANDIDATES qualify. Our complimentary consultation will be most useful here.

This technology has been optimized for providing the best results on all three skin conditions (red spots / vessels, brown spots and sun damage) with minimal downtime. You do remain in the same room with the same clinician from beginning to end.

The proprietary procedure at Newport Aesthetics is performed in 3 steps, or what our physician, Dr. Ann Mai refers to as “passes”:

The first pass will use an Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology to treat discoloration for a more even-looking appearance. This includes sun-damage such as freckles, brown spots, or age spots. This pass also addresses unwanted facial vessels (often referred to as 'veins') including broken blood vessels, spider veins and rosacea.

The second and third passes will use a “microbeam” laser technology (a non-ablative, fractionated laser technology - means NO POST-PROCEDURE FLAKING) that will gently renew the skin for a smoother-looking appearance. This unique technology works by breaking down dysfunctional collagen to stimulate new collagen and elastin production – the keys to the support structure of our skin. Dr. Mai integrates TWO different laser heads to produce the best results!

Improved skin structure results in the reduction of fine lines, wrinkles, scars and other surface imperfections.

Overall, the downtime is MINIMAL but the results are remarkable!

What to Expect

During the Synergy by Newport Aesthetics treatment, there is minimal discomfort. We do offer the most potent and patented topical numbing agent in the USA. Plus, we also have nitrous oxide (laughing gas) to further enhance your comfort and experience (there is an extra charge for this).

After the treatment, you may experience some minor redness and swelling similar to prolonged sun exposure - THERE OFTEN IS NO FLAKING AND NEVER ANY BLEEDING. The redness will resolve in a few days and you CAN wear makeup to conceal any redness. There is NO NEED for injectable anesthesia. There is expected swelling for 3-5 days that only you will notice. Most outsiders will not even know that you had anything done except that you look refreshed.

You will see continued improvement in your skin’s appearance during and after a the initial course of treatments (typically 4). You may see results in facial veins (fading) immediately after the treatment along with a darkening of the brown spots (then they will lighten). These spots will flake off over the next 1-3 weeks leaving you with a radiant appearance. Last but not least, you will see progressive reduction of fine lines, wrinkles and/or scarring over the next 6 months as your skin naturally responds to the treatment. It takes 6 months to build new collagen - so please be patient.

FAQs

Am I a candidate?

The Synergy by Newport Aesthetics laser treatments can be safely performed on most skin types and addresses the most common aging and sun-related skin conditions. This includes wrinkles, sun spots and facial vessels. During your complimentary consultation, our physician will determine if you are a good candidate for the procedure.

How many treatments will I need?

A typical course of treatment starts with 4 (FOUR) Synergy procedures at one-month intervals. However, every person's skin condition is different so we will customize your treatment for the most optimal results. Your specific treatment plan will be discussed during your consultation.

If you start treatments early, especially in your 30s, then ONE treatment per year should suffice to slow down the signs of aging such as red or brown spots and early prevention of wrinkles. If you start Synergy in your 40s or beyond, often a second maintenance treatment within one year is needed for maintenance.

The initial round of treatments is usually 4 with each treatment spaced 4 weeks apart . You must strictly avoid sun exposure and religiously use sunscreen in between treatments. More importantly, YOU MUST STAY AWAY FROM THE SUN after the initial course of treatment to protect your investment with any Newport Aesthetics sunscreen.

Generally, maintenance treatments of 1-2 per year will keep your skin looking brighter, tighter, firmer and more youthful.

Collagen production is stimulated with this treatment.

How will it feel?

During a Synergy by Newport Aesthetics treatment, most people feel only minimal discomfort. We do offer topical numbing. You may feel some mild cooling as the laser is guided over the treatment area along with a slight sensation similar to the snapping of a rubber band each time the laser is pulsed.

After treatment, you may experience some minor redness and swelling similar to a mild sunburn (only for a couple of days).

How long does the Synergy procedure take?

Treatments are quick and take 60-120 minutes - depending on how many. areas are treated. Numbing does take 15-20 minutes to take effect.

How long before I can resume normal activities?

Typically, you can resume regular activities the same day as your treatment. Due to some redness and swelling you may experience, a day or two of “social downtime” may apply.

Is it safe?

The Synergy by Newport Aesthetics laser treatment is clinically proven to be safe and effective.

When will I see results?

Many patients see significant skin improvement within 2-3 weeks of treatment - this is mostly related to skin tone - lighter, brighter, clearer and younger looking. Synergy provides a gradual and natural improvement with excellent long-term results. As you notice a reduction in redness, flushing and dilated capillaries - your skin will look firmer and healthier as sun damage, fine lines, pore size, freckling and irregular pigmentation are minimized with the stimulation of collagen production. This process does take more time (it takes 6 months to build collagen) so be patient.

Will the spots and redness reappear over time?

Yes. Just like gray hair will keep coming in once they start, red and brown lesions will try to come back. However, much less so if you follow our post-care recommendations. We offer a physician-formulated topical treatment that is available by prescription only to protect your investment and keep sun spots from reappearing. Don't forget to use it beyond the recovery period for longer-lasting results. Our medical grade skin care products will keep stimulating collagen production and reduce the number of future Synergy treatments required for maintenance of results. Ask us for more details.

Over time, NEW spots may appear if there is sufficient sun exposure; these too can be removed with additional treatments. Remember to liberally apply sunscreen daily. Even on a cloudy day, there is UV light or even computer / screen light to cause collagen breakdown and skin damage.

Are patients satisfied with their results?

Synergy treatments are recognized with a very high level of patient satisfaction. Every single one of patients has been beyond pleased with their results. We get referrals over and over for this procedure exclusively offered at Newport Aesthetics. Only our doctor performs this procedure and with very specific laser settings. Nobody can offer this treatment and promise results like we do.

Pre + Post Care

PRE-CARE (BEFORE):

Please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled time. Please be advised, running late may result in less than optimal treatment time.
NO makeup please.
Please have your hair tied back if possible.
Please STOP the following cosmetic products 72 hours before treatment: Retin A / Tretinoin / Benzoyl Peroxide / Glycolic Acid / Salicylic Acid
This laser treatment is designed for minimal downtime and fast recovery. It is mildly uncomfortable during the procedure. Tylenol can be taken 30 minutes before your procedure if needed.
We will be using a topical numbing agent, let us know if you have any allergies to anesthetics.

POST-CARE (AFTER):

Avoid direct sun-exposure for 1 week following your treatment. Wear sunscreen.
It is normal for the area to feel similar to sunburn for several hours following the treatment.
It is normal to have dark pinpoint spots / scabs as well as blotchy redness and minimal swelling following your laser treatment for 24-72 hours. With our ICON 1540 laser, flaking may never occur and a full recovery may take 7-10 days. Your skin is rebuilding / resurfacing even if you cannot see it.
Immediately after treatment, there may be mild redness in the treated areas similar to the feeling of a sunburn, which may last from several hours to 2 days.
The amount of targeted brown pigment in “age spots” and “sun spots” varies per patient and is typically darker after treatment as the pigment is lifted to the skin’s surface. The darker pigment has a “coffee ground” appearance and generally sloughs off after 1-2 weeks. Treat the skin gently and allow the pigment to slough off naturally. Picking or scrubbing at the skin in an attempt to speed the sloughing process can lead to pigment irregularities including scarring of the skin!
After Care Products and Regimen: Wash the treated area gently twice a day with a gentle cleanser; we recommend NA Gentle Antioxidant Cleanser. Use tepid water only. Apply aloe vera or a soothing moisturizer as often as needed following your procedure until all peeling and flaking has stopped. We recommend NA Rescue Me Cream for the first 24-48 hours then proceed with your usual moisturizer or NA Luxe Hydrator (more moisturizing) or NA Brightening Hydrator (lighter).
Sun exposure and the use of tanning beds must be avoided for at least 2 weeks after your treatment, preferably 4 weeks. If you know you will get incidental sun exposure, i.e., driving to and from work, walking from your car to the house, etc., we recommend physical avoidance of the sun in all treated areas, a protective hat and any broad spectrum sunscreens from the Newport Aesthetics skin care line.
No exercise that causes sweating, Jacuzzi, sauna, or steam baths if any skin irritation exists.
If any other areas than your face were treated, apply aloe vera and/or plastic wrap to protect your skin from clothing and minimize itchiness as needed. DO NOT do this to your face! Pigmented sunspots will darken and slowly flake and fade within 2 weeks of treatment.
Mineral makeup can be applied immediately after the treatment.
You may wear makeup and resume normal activities in 24 hours.
You may resume cosmetic products (listed above) once all redness/ peeling and scabbing has healed - typically between 1-2 weeks after procedure.
Please make a follow up visit with Newport Aesthetics one (1) week after your procedure (or send us a selfie) and 1 month after your treatment (you may or may not have to undergo another treatment at that time). We want to ensure you are achieving your desired results.
