Vi Peel™ – Medical Grade Peel
For those with melasma and hyperpigmentation, there are not a lot of options for removing discoloration. In some cases, lasers are not able to treat these areas (especially Asian and darker-skinned clients) and may even make the pigmentation problems worse, this is where the VI Peel comes in!
The VI Peel is different from other peels in that it tackles skin problems at the cellular level rather than just burning skin off as in a regular peel. Thanks to the concerted actions of its many acids and vitamins, it will help erase fine lines and wrinkles, shrink enlarged pores and build collagen and elastin to tighten skin. You look visibly younger for sure!
It is again extremely effective in eliminating hyperpigmentation including melasma, a dark discoloration of the skin that is the most difficult issue to address.
The VI Peel™ also provides excellent results for patients with acne. You will notice skin brightening, increased collagen production, skin tightening and a more even skin tone. Acne scars will fade and your makeup will be more evenly apply to your skin!

WE HAVE FACIALS AND OTHER PEELS AT NEWPORT AESTHETICS TOO!
Around here, summer comes and goes – we often get bursts of Santa Ana winds during the fall and winter months that simulate summer – and unexpected trips to the beach! All benefits of living in Southern California, but the sun does damage…
After harsh sun exposure, a FACIAL or CHEMICAL peel is ideal to erase those signs of summer sun damage. A CHARCOAL MASK if a type of FACIAL!
Chemical peeling involves applying a chemical solution to the skin to remove its outer layers. How much skin they remove and how deep they penetrate will depend on the type of peel used, its strength and how long it is left on.
There are three types of peels: superficial, medium and deep.
WHY ARE FACIALS IMPORTANT?
You exercise often, you eat right and you get frequent haircuts, so why wouldn’t you get a facial? As with most other beauty and health matters, facials help prevent and treat common problems. Facials are important because they keep on top of things that happen seasonally. Take the fall season, for example. When you turn the heat on for the first time in October, you might notice a change in your skin. Inside heat can dehydrate skin and facials can drastically correct a lack of moisture. And every April when the weather warms up a bit, skin can get oilier and create breakouts. Facials can help with these and many other skin ailments.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?
So what can you expect from facials? Our licensed esthetician credits facials with smoother texture, proper hydration, a glowing complexion, fewer breakouts and firmer skin. Regular facials do work. The proof? We have mother daughters and sisters as simultaneous clients. One came for facials regularly, the other only occasionally. When the less vigilant one noticed that the other had started to look younger, she quickly changed her tune.
WHAT IS A CHEMICAL PEEL AND WHAT DOES IT FEEL LIKE?
Chemical peels eliminate the dead outer layer of cells from the skin surface. The stimulate the production of new, more vibrant skin.
During the procedure there will be a burning/stinging sensation. For one to three days after the peel some patients experience redness, itching, tightness, and minor swelling, and many patients report that the outer layer of skin may exhibit peeling. Rarely, especially when patients have unprotected sun exposure in the 4 weeks preceding or following a peel, the skin may darken or lighten after treatment. Scarring, allergic reactions, worsening of acne, or infection after superficial peels are also rare complications.
HOW A PUMPKIN PEEL HELPS CLEAR UP ACNE
If you have acne, a pumpkin peel is a great way to stimulate circulation and promote healing without the use of chemicals, which can irritate sensitive skin. The key ingredients in a pumpkin peel are formulated to penetrate deep into your pores to remove debris and dissolve dead skin cells, all while strengthening collagen beneath the skin’s surface and calming any existing flare-ups.
FIGHT THE SIGNS OF AGING WITH A PUMPKIN PEEL
Ever wish you could turn back time to reveal a smoother, more youthful complexion? A pumpkin peel can help you do just that. When applied to the skin, the alpha hydroxy acids and beta hydroxy acids immediately get to work exfoliating dead cells and promoting the cell renewal process, which helps younger cells come to the surface. The result is a smoother, more taut complexion that shaves years off your appearance.
WHAT IS INVOLVED IN A PUMPKIN PEEL TREATMENT?
When you arrive at Newport Aesthetics, our professional staff will first take the time to make sure you are comfortable and that all of your questions have been answered. Prior to treatment, we will clean your skin to remove any oil, makeup or dirt. Next, we will prime your skin with an acidic base to aid in exfoliation. Then, the pumpkin peel will be applied to your face.
The pumpkin peel will feel warm for a few minutes, and then change to a pleasant, tightening feeling. Because a pumpkin peel IS NOT as intense as many other peels, there is no downtime following treatment, and you will see immediate results. Be sure to moisturize following a pumpkin peel to nourish the new layer of skin that has come to the surface.
Radiant skin begins at Newport Aesthetics.

What does the VI Peel treat?
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Age and sun spots
- Enlarged pores

How does VI Peel work?
This peel penetrates into the dermis of the skin, working to resurface mild acne scars, sun damage and signs of aging. Basic peels and facials do not penetrate as deeply as this treatment, making it one of the most effective options available.
Who is/is not a good candidate for the VI Peel?
The Vi Peel is effective on all skin types, tones and ages. Previously, African Americans and those with higher Fitzpatrick pigment levels did not have many options when it came to medical grade peels, however, that is no longer an issue with the Vi Peel. Even those with sensitive and damaged skin will benefit greatly from this treatment.
Where on the body can the VI Peel be used?
Is the VI Peel painful?
Sensitive skin types may experience a slight tingling sensation on the skin, but this is considered a painless treatment.
How many VI Peel treatments do I need?
Noticeable results will be seen after a single treatment, but best results are seen after 3-6 treatments, spaced 2-4 weeks apart. For maintenance treatments after the initial series, we recommend the VI Peel 2-4 times per year, depending on your skin’s needs.
How long does the VI Peel last?
The effects of the VI Peel last for months, however, this does not mean that skin is not susceptible to re-damage or the aging process. As the skin ages, cell turn over and collagen growth diminishes greatly, requiring more maintenance treatments.
During your VI Peel appointment:
Our licensed esthetician will thoroughly cleanse your skin before applying the first layer of the treatment. After a set amount of time, another layer of the treatment will be applied, and left on the skin a minimum of five hours. The actual appointment will only take about 30 minutes.
Post treatment expectations for the VI Peel
After about five hours, the mask can then be washed off. The skin will being to peel around the 2nd day and will continue to do so for up to six days. There may be a slight discoloring of the skin during this time, but most clients report looking as if a sunburn is peeling off. Do not be alarmed if you only experience little to no peeling. You are still getting the full benefit! Your dead skin cells will slough off as you continue your skin maintenance regimen and new collagen is produced.
Contraindications/Risks/ Common concerns of the VI Peel
This peel should only be recommended by a licensed aesthetic doctor due to the possibility of hyper-pigmentation.
Why You Will Love the Benefits of Facials
No matter your age or gender, your body’s largest organ is your skin. If you want your skin (especially on the face) to look its best and stay healthy, you need to take care of it. Healthy, good looking skin begins with skin care.
Facials are an essential ingredient of your overall skin care program and you will love the benefits of facials.
What is a facial?
A facial is a spa therapy and massage that leaves your skin cleaner, softer, younger, and truly transformed. Facials can help clear clogged pores, quench parched skin and remove dead cells. Facials involve some massage which aids in blood circulation and lymphatic drainage. The facial massage also helps to relax facial muscles which can slow the onset of wrinkles on the face. Puffiness reduction, sagging in the face and skin cell renewal are additional benefits from these massage techniques.
What are some benefits of a facial?
Facials help reduce the impact of sun exposure, smoking and other environmental factors as well as incorrect product use. Women are more susceptible to aging due to stress. Facials help reduce stress. While stress is quickly rising to number in the premature aging process, it can also act as a rosacea trigger, shorten the life span of your skin cells, aggravate acne and other skin inflammations. During your facial, your licensed aesthestician will recommend appropriate skin care for home use to help you continue the benefits of our facial and correct ongoing skin care issues. A transforming experience, getting a facial is an absolutely enjoyable skin treatment. You will feel relaxed, pampered and your skin will feel simply amazing after your facial. You will certainly reap the benefits of a facial during the change of seasons. At a minimum, you should receive a facial treatment four times per year, as the seasons change. Regular facials are the key to clear, smooth and radiant skin throughout the year.
Should I consider a chemical peel? Clients interested in a safe and effective method of revitalizing skin and improving acne, rosacea, photoaging, and/or melasma (or other dyspigmentation) may benefit from a series of facial peels. It must be emphasized that superficial peels most often improve but do not “cure” the above problems. Results are variable from patient to patient, but some benefits you may observe are: Healthier and more youthful appearing skin (enhanced natural glow) More even skin tone (lessening of hyperpigmentation) Improvement of oily or acne-prone skin (reduced appearance of blemishes A chemical peel for acne scars can result in a smoother appearance with less hyperpigmentation Potentially subtle improvement in fine lines and superficial scars Enlarged pores may appear smaller. I have acne, should I consider a chemical peel? A chemical peel for acne scars will be most effective in improving the color (lessening hyperpigmentation) of your skin rather than correcting the textural abnormalities, which may be only subtly improve. Do not expect a chemical peel for acne scars to result in removal of pockmarks (pitted scars). To maximize results for patients with both pockmarks (pitted scars) and acne hyper pigmentation, we suggest combining chemical peels with laser treatment non-ablative laser treatments. Many clients alternate sessions between laser treatments and chemical peels for acne scars. I just got a tan two weeks ago. Can I get a chemical peel today? You should not. Unprotected sun exposure in the 4 weeks preceding peels significantly increases the risk of pigmentary side effects (formation of light or dark spots). Likewise, unprotected sun exposure during the month after a peel can have the same consequences as well as reversing the beneficial effects of the peel. I am still scared, does it hurt? First, your face will be washed and degreased. Next, the peel solution is applied to your skin. In about one minute, you will experience a stinging sensation. Depending on your response and discomfort level, another peel layer may be applied. After a few minutes, depending on the type of superficial peel, it will either self- neutralize (salicylic acid or Vitalize) or your doctor will neutralize the peel with a spray (glycolic). The Vitalize peel has an additional step where retinoic acid is applied. After neutralization, sunscreen will be applied to protect your skin. What will my skin look and feel like after the peel? Sometimes there is mild exfoliation (light scaling of outermost layer of skin) one to three days after a peel. Even if this does not occur, the peel is still working as intended to renew and revitalize the skin. Your face may temporarily appear a bit rosy, and this will normalize over the next seven days. You may experience slight stinging, burning, tightness, and/or itching. Frequent moisturization will help to speed up healing process.
Post-Facial Care: How to Get the Most from Your Facial
Facials are an amazing way to help promote skin’s cell turnover and give yourself a refreshed, rejuvenated look. By using cleansers, steam treatments and appropriate medical grade skin care products, your face can look as good as it feels. What most patients do not realize however is what steps to take after a facial to maximize the benefits.
Most of what is recommended post-facial deals with avoiding routines. Washing your face, and using makeup are fine when it is a regular day, but after a facial – keep it simple! The first 24-48 hours post-facial are the most essential to guaranteeing your skin has time to completely refresh itself and to breath.
Follow these tips to get the most of your facial:
Avoid Applying Heavy Makeup
Avoid applying makeup right after-and up to 4 hours -after your facial. Pores are open, and applying makeup can clog them which might lead to further breakouts. Skipping or using minimal application post-facial will further enhance your glow!
Avoid Over Cleansing and Exfoliants
After your facial your skin is clean, refreshed, and radiant. You can make it last longer post treatment by avoiding over cleansing, using harsh toners, or heavy creams. Instead, use a soap free cleanser, and a light to mid weight moisturizer. There are certain ingredients in products that should be avoided for at least 24 hours such as BHA/AHA, or Retin-A. These ingredients may cause irritation and redness.
Avoid UV Exposure
Most facials include an exfoliant or light peel to activate new skin cells which aids the treatment in giving you a fresh look. For this reason, it is very important to protect your face, and other areas by avoiding or limiting sun exposure and selecting the right sunscreen. Titanium oxide and zinc oxide are ideal ingredients in products for your skin. They work by physically blocking the UV light from being absorbed into your epidermis. Choose a minimum of SPF 30, and reapply every 80 minutes if you are outdoors.
Avoid Steam, Sauna, or Gym
During your facial steam, exfoliants, and medical grade skin care products are used. Exposing your freshly treating skin to excessive heat in a shower/sauna or working up a sweat can cause irritation, redness and breakouts. Make your pretty glow last- enjoy a cup of green tea instead!
Sometimes breakouts can appear right after your treatment. While a facial can rid your skin of congestion, often times dirt and oil are too deep under the skin to extract. When this happens, do not give into the temptation to pick, or squeeze them yourself. Picking can cause more breakouts and lead to scarring. Wait until the congestion rises to the surface and treat by visiting your medical aesthetician for extractions or products. Following these tips will help you enhance the results you received from your facial. Remember – healthy skin is beautiful skin, and beautiful skin starts here!
Post Chemical Peel Care:
Treatment: AM: Gently cleanse your face with hydrating face wash (e.g. Jan Marini Bioglycolic Cleanser) and then apply a moisturizing sunscreen (e.g. Jan Marini Marini Physical SPF 45). Do not scrub or use a washcloth if skin is peeling. Avoid direct sunlight for at least one week. Reapply sunscreen in the middle of the day. PM: Gently cleanse your face with hydrating face wash and then apply a moisturizing lotion. Do not scrub or use a washcloth if skin is peeling. A non-comedogenic moisturizer (e.g. Jan Marini Face Transformation Cream / PCA Skin Rebalance) may be used as often as needed to relieve any dryness and control peeling. If you are being prescribed a topical retinoid (retinol, tretinoin, Renova, Differin) cream, you may start or restart this medication 4-5 days after the peel (start every other day and increase to daily as tolerated) DO NOT PICK, PEEL, SCRAPE, OR SCRATCH FLAKY SKIN. THIS CAN LEAD TO DARK OR LIGHT SPOTS! Wait at least one week after treatment to have any facial treatments.
